Right now I’m sitting under a tree drinking an ice coffee and listening to an old Jane’s Addiction song. It’s 80° and the shade feels perfect.
Today I am feeling grateful.
Sometimes I forget to be grateful. Sometimes I forget for months or even years. When that happens things seem to fall apart.
Do you know what I mean? I bet you do.
Gratitude has been a popular (and annoying) trend over the last several years online. Every damned guru out there from weight lifters to make up artists will recommend a morning “gratitude practice” or something similar.
Most of them are full of shit. They don’t even do it themselves! But that doesn’t mean having gratitude doesn’t help. In fact — it can help a whole helluva lot.
Sometimes you get so caught up in your head, current events or family and relationship drama that you forget how simple life can be.
Life requires three things.
- Water
- Food
- Shelter
That’s it. Those three things are all you need to survive. If you have that — be grateful. If you have anything more than that be really grateful.
Today you are alive.
You can sit under a tree on a nice, sunny day listening to an old Jane’s Addiction song…
and feel grateful.

That’s a beautiful thing! Thanks for sharing. It made me stop and think. I’m gonna have a no phone day tomorrow. I need a day to myself. Maybe I’ll go for a drive and listen to Cowboy in the Sunshine. That album brings out just about every emotion there is. I really could use one of those days. It’s so good to hear that you’re having a peaceful, happy feeling. Take good care! Tammie

It does my heart good to think that somewhere… someone is driving around listening to Cowboy In The Sunshine. That makes it all worthwhile… Have a new album in the works too. 🙂

I might add one more thing
Just like all living things we require light.
You can call that light many things but I choose to call it God.
His light is what stirs your soul to recognize those things you are grateful for. His light is where that peaceful feeling resides.
