Clouds Attack

Living in the Hollywood Hills has it’s perks. It’s quiet, the views area amazing, it’s heavily wooded and it provides a great escape from the madness of Hollywood when you want it. I’ve seen a lot of amazing sights in the area since I moved in but yesterday was a new one for me.

I woke up at about 6:45am and looked out my window. Most mornings I’m greeted by an amazing sunrise  and color show that does a great job of putting me in a good mood… but yesterday… I saw something completely different… and I shot out of bed like the sheets were on fire.

For the last week or so it’s been hazy in the mornings. Then the fog lifts at about 8:30am and the sun shines and life is good. But on this particular morning I saw that clouds were coming into our little hillside…  and they were moving very fast…

At first I thought it might be smoke from a forest fire… and then I looked out further into the sky and saw this…

The entire city of Los Angeles was covered deep in clouds. It shocked me a little and for  a second I thought maybe something was wrong… because I wasn’t expecting this and had never seen it before.

Right before my eyes the clouds started moving again and were being sucked back out of the hillside. After a few seconds the area was almost completely clear of clouds but the city was still covered. The clouds moved so fast it looked like something out of a movie… like magic.

I started video taping (video clips posted at the bottom of this post) to try to catch the movement but I wasn’t able to get enough of it to make it feel like it felt…I’ve never seen anything like it.

And then…. my mind started playing tricks on me.

I started to imagine that the clouds were actually a gigantic tidal wave from the ocean and the world was ending and at any moment water would flood the hills. I actually panicked and had to convince myself that this was not the case, that it was not water and all I was seeing were clouds, light and fluffy clouds that meant no harm.

If you look really closely at the photo below (click to zoom in) can you see what I’m talking about?

It took several hours but the sky finally cleared, it was an incredible way to start the day and I was thankful I got to see it. I took a photo after it had cleared up a bit to show the drastic difference.

It just goes to show how many benefits there are to waking up early… I mean if I’d slept until noon… I would have missed the entire thing.

I started feeling like the Double Rainbow guy (“WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN?”)
